Mature audiences

While this film is suspenseful and thrilling it isn't loaded with action, making it boring for younger teens to watch. Extremely violent in rough ways; Leo DiCaprio gets mauled and ripped to shreds by a bear and is shown foaming from the mouth and slowly suffering, dying, and being buried alive. Later in the movie he also gets in a hand to hand combat with brutal blood and gore (fingers, and chunks of skin cut off) A man is also scalped off screen and is heard screaming bloody murder.Language is not a problem. Couple uses of s**t, damn, hell etc. and f**k used in another language shown in dialogue on screen. A very disturbing scene shows a young woman being raped from behind pressed against a tree; man gropes her and is heard mumbling sexual dialogue and moaning noises. Man in the beginning is also shown fully naked with arrows stuck in his back.

Mind-Blowing

This movie is just pure art. The natural lighting cinematography was a very good choice to make. One of the best roles Leonardo has ever played among others. This movie will blow your mind if you're into white vs. indian bloodshed. It's very graphic and has some nudity. Not for the feint of heart I would say. This movie is worth a watch no matter who you are. It's not for everyone but you need to try it. It's not a movie, it's an experience.

Good Movie - Parents May Want to Give it a First Watch

I am a huge fan of LDC. I hadn't seen this movie so decided it would be good for a family movie night. Once I got it, I realized I hadn't checked whether it was safe for kids, because you just never know. I checked this site and it had a review that insisted there was no sex. I said cool. However, there is a rape scene. I was shocked and we scrambled to turn the movie off. The N word is also used a few times throughout the movie and that's important to mention. There's also a lot of blood..a lot. So keep that in mind. While it's cool that the movie tried to be as authentic as possible (I think), I wouldn't let kids under 18 watch it. Even at 18, I'd still have a discussion about what was seen in the film. It's not overreacting. It's parenting. Other than that, this movie is a great watch for adults.

Not for movie pussies. They don't hold back.

The Revenant is an awesome survival themed western with great performances from everyone (especially Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio.), amazing camera work, brutal action, extreme gore, suspense, and raw thrills. I recommend this movie to people who like really dark survival/western thrillers, they won't be disappointed.

One of the best looking movies ever. DiCaprio is great, yet it was a pity Oscar. Also, story is a little weak, but still great.

Very Good

Great movie. It is very violent, so be prerared for lots of blood and gore. Overall though the movie was amazing. Acting was stellar and the cinematography was beyond wonderful. Very Very Very good. Though I would not let young teens watch this, it is certainly a mature movie. Though I loved it, many scenes were hard to stomach. Just go into the movie knowing that it is graphic.

Violent and kind of long, but well-acted and well-shot.

Hugh Glass, who is played very well by Leonardo DiCaprio, is a fur trader who gets left for dead, then goes on a quest to make it out of the wilderness alive. This movie is mainly a showcase for the BEAUTIFUL scenery and cinematography, and DiCaprio's performance. While those elements are worth watching, the story is not as well-played out. I am not totally against visuals telling a story, but I can have a problem getting through a 2.5+ hour-long movie if there are a lot of segments that just show scenery; there's only so much one can take before the movie loses its viewers' interests. When the story does pick up, though, it gets REALLY intense. For violence, there is a brutal opening fight scene between fur traders and Native Americans (there are stabbings, shootings including one of a horse, combats, and a lot of disturbing bloody images), a buffalo hunt (seen from a distance), a horse falling off a cliff (it loses its head, then has its insides removed; lots of blood), an intense fight/attack with a bear, a dead corpse hanging, a rape, a castrated man with bloody legs, and a vicious climactic, bloody fight scene (which includes two scalpings). There is a fleeting glimpse of a naked man with a full-frontal view (then later we see his bloodied buttocks). One character has a tendency to use much foul language. Overall, worth seeing, if only once, but not with kids or teens. 7.5/10

Okay so here's the deal..

I LOVED the Revenant. But like I said in other of my reviews, it depends on what you let your kids watch and what you don't. The movie was VERY violent, but if your okay with your kids watching violent movies, it should be fine. It has some language, some cringing moments, one mild rape scene, and the whole movie is pretty violent. But it's a pretty good father and son movie. Just don't freak out when you see the violence. Other than that, It was AMAZING. Enjoy

pretty scenery..SUPER LONG ..VIOLENT.. thats it...

Watch The Revenant Movie
Save your money.Went with my son and girlfriend. Went because they are under 17 and could not see it otherwise without me.knew from trailer it would be a dark movie..but hey it just got an Oscar, right? I knew going in from the trailer it was a guys flick lots of battling and violence. But honestly I can take battle movies and stories of survival movies they are kind of inspirational. But to spend pretty much close to $50 for 3 people. So NOT worth it. So so so not worth it!!!!If you like watching someone in pain brutally suffer over and over again with open wounds oozing and still survive this is your movie. Suffering is depressing unless it has some moral outcome like Gladiator did.. some point to it all. The end of the movie was not fulfilling enough .. you are are left with what was the real point here?? Maybe his ability and courage to survive and keep surviving.. but for what?We heard people talking about this movie just before we walked in (they were going to see another movie). They said it just dragged on and on. Exactly.Love Leo, and the director. But too much violence, it was bleak, and so much suffering that it was depressing and disturbing. At least in Gladiator you had a feeling of such power and strength of the main character and as depressing as Gladiator was it was a feeling like he wins in the end and you are somewhat inspired by the strength of his spirit. And it all comes together in the end and there was some point to all the violence and suffering of the main character in that movie. This movie seemed pointless and dark and honestly very boring. Until the end and even in the end you think..what was the point again? There were lots of story lines you were trying to connect how they all related, It wasn't clear. This movie was such a waste of money.Love love love the scenery. You fall in love with the natural beauty of the land out west with the trees, forests, streams, snow. That was the brightest part of this movie. Save your money..watch on cable.

The Revenant

Great acting from DiCaprio, and intense movie. The violence is not as strong as what the reporters have said, but it's still violent and bloody. There is also some language and raping.

Stunning and Grisly Fight to Survive

I strongly believe that Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are the two best actors of my generation, and The Revenant is a masterpiece of DiCaprio's formidable talents. And, quite frankly, a showpiece for Tom Hardy's as well!I was actually on the fence about whether or not I wanted to see this movie. I was expecting Leo to be fantastic, and the cinematography to be amazing; but I was also expecting it to be very intense and gory, which I don't care for, and I wasn't sure if the gore would tip the scales toward depressing and draining, or if it would ultimately be worth the ride. I was completely correct in my expectations: grisly and graphic brutality abounded, between man, beast, and the unforgiving landscape itself. There were several violent scenes during which I covered my eyes through the most intense sequences, and one moment when I cried so hard I shook. However, that brutality was juxtaposed with several characters' indefatigable drive to survive, and punctuated by the occasional unexpected kindness, all showcased in a beautiful, natural wilderness setting. At times heart pounding, at times heart wrenching, The Revenant is highly affecting and most appropriate for adults and mature teens. As I left the theatre I had just one complaint: I found the ending too abrupt.. even at two and a half hours long, I still wanted more!

Gritty in every sense of the word

The Revenant Full Stream

the trailer peaked my interest right away, i was expecting something brutal and dark and it was TOTALLY worth the ticket price, and now that I own it on fios on demand, I can watch this great movie again and again, the revenant is a great survival themed western drama thriller with great performances, great camera work (i found myself staring at it quite a bit), BRUTAL fight scenes (the opening fight scene is one of the best fight scenes I've watched in a while), suspense, and EXTREME gore (this is NOT a date movie unless your girlfriend likes dark films). anyway, I highly recommend the revenant to those who like Leo dicaprio and tom Hardy and have been wanting to see those two great actors in a movie together

Beautiful Movie but a 12 year old does NOT need go through this

This is a great movie with AMAZING acting, BEAUTIFUL cinematography and a small moment with a good message. The story isn't anything mind-blowingly complex. It's very simple. What's mind-blowing is the gruesome storytelling. It was very 'in your face' violence. Literally in your face, events of gore, suffering and pain in really close up shots. Really not for kids, it made me feel sick at times . Either way it's not a story that your kids are missing out on because its so simple.

Extremely brutal revenge Western brings best out of all involved

InnĂ¡ritu, the triple-Oscar-winning director who brought us 'Babel,' and, just last year 'Birdman' is back with this movie he shot back to back with the aforementioned film. It's so good. My beefs are that we didn't really get to know Glass all that well beforehand, what kind of person he was internally. After the movie you know it was a real guy who lumbered and staggered and bled to find the man who killed his son (Tom Hardy). That's what makes it even more remarkable: he's not even mad Fitzgerald left him for dead: it's that he killed his son (don't worry, it's in the trailer, no spoilers). Apparently this was one of the hardest movies to shoot: natural light, freezing cold environments. Expect Oscar wins for Leo, the beautiful cinematography by Chivo, and maybe another Best Picture win for InnĂ¡ritu. Who knows? It's extremely violent though, earning its R-rating to the fullest.

Snooze Fest

Leonardo was awesome as usual, however the movie tended to drag on and on with Leonardo crawling over treacherous terrain as he made his way back to camp. After the bear scene the movie started to slow down. The rest of the movie was Leonardo going solo against a background of white. At one point I wanted someone to shoot ME and put ME out of my misery. When he 'FINALLY' makes his way to camp I thought he was about to get his much deserved revenge on his enemy but instead of a posse of men ready to help him track down the villain, it is only Leonardo and one other man. Then, more boredom as I watched them riding through more snow. The ending was very disappointing. This movie is not at all what the critics claim it to be. Save your money and stay home!
